Localization and climate

The Azorean archipelago, the most isolated group of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean, are positioned between the latitudes 37o through 40o N and the longitudes 25o through 31o W.

There are three distinct groups:

The Occidental Group: Flores and Corvo.
The Central Group: Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico and Faial
The Oriental Group: San Miguel, Santa Maria and the Formigas (ants), the latter uninhabited.

The distance between the archipelago and the mainland Portugal is 1,300 Km.

In the West, the closest landfall is Newfoundland, at a distance of 1,800 km.

The Azores have a mild sea climate, in which the annual humidity value, rain and temperatures do not vary a lot. The climate is for a great deal influenced by the Azorean High.

The average temperature is 17.5º C and the relative humidity is between 75% and 80% high, throughout the year.
